Gender Typing

DNA analysis of the X and Y chromosomes allows us to determine the gender of most wildlife samples. In this analysis we amplify regions of DNA on the X and Y chromosomes to see which chromosomes are present. Depending on the species of origin we use one of two PCR reactions to determine the gender of the sample. Gender typing can be performed on DNA from a range of sample types.

Sample types:
Gender typing can been performed on DNA isolated from:

• Meat (raw & processed) • Skin • Blood
• Hair • Scat • Bones
